Occupy Wall Street – An Anthem For A Movement

I’ve heard lots of talk about the need for an anthem for the global Occupy demonstrations. A few weeks back I tried my hand at something, and I kinda like what I came up with. It features 2 parts: A basic chorus, “Occupy Wall Street for justice, occupy Wall Street for peace,” alternating with short verses of rhymed couplets. Almost any issue or concern can be included, and in true “folk song” fashion, I hope people will add their own verses as the song evolves. All I ask is to keep it respectful, nonviolent, and positive. Everything should relate to economic inequality and how it drags down ALL of society.
Musically, the chorus is simple, I play E major and A major chords, starting with E, hitting the A on the word “wall,” and back to the E on both “justice” and “peace.”
The verse uses the familiar pattern from songs like “Hey Joe,” moving from C to G to D to A, then C to G to D to B7.

Withlacoochee State Trail, part 2

my second day trip on the trail, I didn’t get out of the city of Inverness… started out at the Courthouse Museum, then had a long conversation with the bookstore owner, and a coffee from Deco Cafe.

The Citrus County Courthouse Heritage Museum

Elvis’ movie “Follow That Dream” was shot in this courtroom, and in the surrounding countryside.

That evening, we ate a good dinner at Neon Leon’s Zydeco Restaurant in Homosassa, serenaded by one-man band Cajun Dave.
The restaurant is run by Mitch Simmons, nephew of Leon Wilkeson, bassist with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Welcome me back to blogging!
I took a few days off between Christmas and New Years, and flew down to Florida with She-Who-Knits, staying with her sister and brother-in-law and visiting her Mom in the nursing home. A bit late, we could have used the time off during the big snow a week ago, but the change of scenery, and of temperature, is welcome.

Monday evening, after a good home-cooked lasagna, we drove up to Dunnellon for an open mic at The Levee, hosted by Michelle Dalziel. I met Michelle at Marci Geller’s house, when Lucky 13 inaugurated their Sonic Underground house concert series, and invited Michelle to play. Cathy Kreger of Lucky 13 met Michelle online, where they both gave concerts in “Second Life.” It’s all about the networking! Anyway, after a featured set by Seth Parker, Michelle gave me the stage for a good half hour or so, and I was well-received. Despite a lingering cold, and a few Killian’s Reds, I gave it my best. Today, after a late breakfast and a lazy morning, I was dropped off in downtown Inverness and hiked a few miles on the Withlacoochee State Trail, then into Fort Cooper State Park, for a dose of history and nature.

Tonight, a movie, book, and bed.
